Les 100 Ciels X M2M

By November 30, 2018 BEHIND THE SCENES, EVENTS
Blog Cover4

This season we are proud to support Mothers to Mothers (m2m), an International non-profit organization focusing on bolstering African healthcare systems, while delivering empowerment opportunities for women. From their launch in Cape Town, South Africa in 2001, m2m have developed to address the causes and effects of HIV, delivering benefits at almost all stages of life.  m2m employ, train and help to empower HIV-positive women as community health workers. These “Mentor Mothers” work in local communities, supporting understaffed health facilities to ensure that women and their families get the health advice and medication they need and are supported on their treatment journey.

In support of their work, we at Les 100 Ciels have committed to donate the profits of the sales of our Kasia 100% Cashmere jumper to the m2m cause. As part of this commitment, we organised a workshop in collaboration with The Yard Café in London, inviting the members of the Mama Club and our customers, to join together to take part in an embroidery class and awareness raising talk. The aim of this event was to support a good cause and build awareness of m2m amongst our customers and the general public.

With the help of a sewing tutor, we have created about 20 embroideries, inspired by the m2m logo, which will then be pressed on our Kasia jumpers and sold in store.

In conversation with BY SARAH

By September 14, 2018 EVENTS, INSPIRATION

This week Les 100 Ciels met Sarah and Lauren, sisters and founders of BY SARAH, a UK skincare brand focused on high quality, natural ingredients. Read on as the pair chat to us about their bold and empowering mission to bring greater clarity, authenticity and simplicity to skincare.

Tell us about BY SARAH

BY SARAH LONDON is tackling the issue of transparency in skincare and advocating a more conscious way of living. Using only the finest certified-organic and ethically-sourced natural ingredients, we believe you should know exactly what you’re putting on your skin and it’s why we detail a full ingredient list on the front label of each of our products – absolutely nothing hidden, artificial or synthetic. We’re the only UK skincare brand to do this consistently across our collection. Founded and run by myself and sister, Lauren, from our studio in West Sussex, England.

What sparked your interest in skincare?

I worked in the beauty industry for over 10 years and have been crafting skincare at home since I was a young teenager. I took my passion much more seriously six years ago when Lauren was recovering from leukaemia. I was unable to find skincare that I trusted as many natural and organic ranges had long, cryptic and often confusing and misleading labelling. So I made it my mission to create my own blends using best certified-organic and sustainably-sourced plant-based ingredients to soothe and nourish Lauren’s sensitive skin. And the finest of my blends have become the BY SARAH collection.

How do influences from your past find their way into BY SARAH?

When I decided to create plant-based blends specifically to help Lauren, my benchmark was creating skincare that is of the highest quality, completely toxic-free and safe enough to use on babies’ skin (Lauren’s skin was as sensitive as a newborn baby’s). From this place, I saw that there was a real need to make skincare much easier to understand and to be authentic about the ingredients that are used. That’s why we only use the highest quality certified-organic and ethically-sourced natural ingredients and list them in full on the front label.

How has the brand evolved since you launched?

We launched the brand in November 2017 and are thrilled to have won 5 industry-leading awards to date, including our Organic Facial oil being awarded the Best New Skincare Product Launch by The Beauty Shortlist just 4 months after we launched – this was a truly magical moment! We’re having so much fun connecting with our incredibly-engaged following on social media, meeting our customers at events and pop-ups and frequently assessing how we can better serve our customers, whether that’s through specific topics in our blog posts or one-on-one skin consultations with me.

You act consciously regarding your ethical and sustainable production. Do you also reflect this in your daily life choices?

Transparency and sustainability is at the heart of our brand mission and we’re both intrinsically linked to the brand- that in many ways is a reflection of how we live our lives. We’re big believers that less, of the best, is more – choosing organic products wherever we can is the best way to support this belief. Organic farmers nurture the richest soils for our crops to thrive in which is beneficial for wildlife and the wider environment, now and in the future.

What is the biggest lesson that you have learned since you started BY SARAH?

Launching a new skincare brand in a highly competitive market is one of the hardest things we’ve done. You need patience – and a lot of it! Celebrating the small wins is crucial in acknowledging how far we’ve come in such a short space of time. Every new customer and positive comment means we’re one step closer to helping people lead more empowered and conscious lives.

What would you like to achieve in the near future?

Starting with bringing greater transparency and authenticity to natural and organic skincare, our dream is to become your go-to wellness brand for all your skincare, lifestyle and well being needs. Watch this space…

What’s your motto?

I live by Lauren’s favourite motto, which is “Live life as if everything is rigged in your favour” – Rumi.

The Les 100 Ciels team are always looking for like-minded brands to collaborate with and we were so excited to discover BY SARAH! Their commitment to transparency and ethical production for skincare is a pioneering force that we are proud to support. A range of BY SARAH products is available in our St Christopher’s Place store in Marylebone.

Top Christmas Shows in London

By December 6, 2017 EVENTS

If you haven’t been forced into the Christmas spirit already with the sheer volume of red, green and glitter around the capital, it won’t take long before it hits you. There is a host of events on around London for both adults and families. At Christmas, London’s dance venues really do their best and stage a beautiful array of yuletide shows. Ballet classics like ‘Swan Lake’ and, yes, the immortal ‘Nutcracker’ dominates the bill at big theatres like the Coliseum and the Royal Opera House. But further afield, there are also family-friendly contemporary dance shows and dazzling ice spectaculars to see!

We’ve brought together some of the best moments from our favourite Christmas shows!

  1. The Nutcracker

Over 100 dancers and musicians bring The Nutcracker to life with exquisite dancing, beautiful sets and Tchaikovsky’s glorious score played live. Tchaikovsky’s classic Christmas tale has been knocking around since 1892 and has never been more popular. But how to decide which of the four Nutcrackers to see in London?

-English National Ballet, The Coliseum

The English National Ballet returns to the Coliseum to restage a show seen by over 70,000 audience members last year. From the sound of the orchestra tuning up, to the final bows and cheers, a trip to English National Ballet’s Nutcracker in the splendour of the London Coliseum is an unforgettable Christmas treat. Runs for 34 performances from 16 December-10 January.

-The Royal Ballet, Royal Opera House

The hottest Nutcracker in town has very few tickets left and for the first time this year, Birmingham Royal Ballet brings this Christmas favourite to the Royal Albert Hall. This magical ballet, with its ravishing Tchaikovsky score, is the quintessential Christmas treat for all the family. Runs until 14 January.

-Nutcracker On Ice, The Royal Albert Hall

Played out on 4,000 square feet of ice, this production sees the Imperial Ice Stars return to the Royal Albert Hall for the third time. There are a number of interesting ingredients including colourful projections, opulent costumes, magic tricks and special effects as well as spectacular skating hijinks and a live orchestra. Runs from 28 December-2 January.

-Nutcracker! The Musical, The Pleasance

Those looking for a different take on the Tchaikovsky charmer might want to head to north London’s Pleasance theatre. Written by multiple Emmy Award-winner Nancy Holson, this lyrical version features a modern musical score orchestrated by Bruce Kiesling. Runs until 3 January.

  1. Cinderella

A thrilling and evocative love story set in London during the Second World War. Matthew Bourne’s interpretation of the classic fairy tale, has, at its heart, a true war-time romance. A chance meeting results in a magical night for Cinderella and her dashing young RAF pilot, together just long enough to fall in love before being parted by the horrors of the Blitz.

  1. The Snowman

This magical live version of Raymond Briggs’ much-loved children’s classic has established itself as a festive family favourite that continues to delight audiences of all ages,  telling the story of a boy and his magical snowman’s wintery wonderland adventure.

Bonfire Night

By November 1, 2017 EVENTS

Remember, remember the 5th of November…and don’t forget your cashmere jumper!

It’s Bonfire night, so get ready for fireworks, sparklers and toffee apples!

Bonfire Night is one of our favourite annual events in the UK bringing some of the best traditions with it, including big, cosy bonfires and an enchanting display of fireworks. Bonfire night traditionally celebrates the failure of the Gunpowder Plot which attempted to blow up the Houses of Parliament in 1605. Nowadays, it’s an excuse for everyone to wrap up warm and gather with family and friends around an enormous bonfire, watching fireworks shooting up and colouring the sky in brilliant colour. Nothing says Autumn in the UK, like feeling the warmth of a bonfire on your face, sipping on warm, mulled wine or and drawing your name in the sky with a sparkler!

Many see Bonfire Night as the transitional point from lightweight jackets and jumpers, to some heavier and cosier pieces. If you need some ideas on what to wear this bonfire night (its meant to be a cool one), think outfits that keep you warm and cosy, whilst keeping a fashion forward edge.

Here are our top picks from our new arrivals to keep you warm this Bonfire Night!

Sheeka: Your BFF as temperatures start to drop. A 100% cashmere jumper, with directional ribbed detailing and a funnel neckline for an extra cosy feel. Sheeka is as practical as it is versatile.

Kelsi: This textured cashmere jumper with bat wing sleeves is perfect for layering. The slightly cropped length gives a casual, easygoing look. Both colour options, the smoke or the nude, can be paired seamlessly with black trousers and over the knee boots for a sophisticated evening look.

Bow: This statement reversible poncho offers both style and practicality. With 100% cashmere on one side and wind blocking, water resistant fabric on the other, Bow brings luxury and function together. The epitome of a wardrobe staple, it can be worn with just about anything!

Whether you are braving the weather to watch the fireworks with friends or having a quiet night indoors with family, we’ve got you sorted.

We hope it goes off with a bang!
