Behind the seams | Autumn Winter ’17

By July 19, 2017 BEHIND THE SCENES
Pebbles

Our autumn collection is inspired by the Japanese view of life, in particular the art of Wabi Sabi. Through embracing a simple, uncluttered aesthetic, we’ve concentrated on paring back inessentials and finding beauty in imperfections. We are abandoning the perfect and celebrating authentic craftsmanship whilst appreciating the beauty of natural objects.

Wabi sabi 1

The Wabi Sabi way of life favours authenticity over perfection and the natural and organic over clinical and symmetrical. This appreciation of fragile and incomplete things that do not adhere to our preconceived idea of beauty is something that is at the forefront of  our designs in this collection.

Wabi sabi 2

In the first part of the season  we have created pieces with raw edged seams, asymmetric and unfinished hems. Layered textures and unique silhouettes are supported by a palette of blush and natural tones of dusty pink and stone.

Wabi sabi 3

Towards the end of the season, there is a harmony between nature and design with a palette of rich tones of forest green and deep charcoal. Intarsia prints in scattered designs inspired by Raku ceramics give character, touch and feel.

Keep tuned for our new season styles, coming soon!

For a behind-the seams look at the new collection, here are our key themes in more detail:

In a world of evolving technology, from time to time we crave a simple, natural existence. In this collection we have explored a world without technology, one that is influenced by the forces of nature. This is a celebration of craftsmanship and texture that draws on the essentials of life whilst paving a way to the future.

We have also explored the inter-connectivity between design, architecture, nature and culture and how they influence and work with each other. Architecture lends itself to fashion and design can take inspiration from nature- the world is unified through creativity.

Our new Autumn collection is here!

We’re so excited to share with you our inspirations behind our beautiful new collection.

Our designs for the Autumn season take inspiration from minimalist twentieth-century architectural style.  The colour palette and the organic forms used in the work of Le Corbusier and the monochromatic structural qualities of Mies van der Rohe’s work inform the designs throughout the season.

We have focused on simplicity through using clean lines and with a pure use of colour at the beginning of the season. The structure of the garments refer to the lines used in modern architecture with sculptured silhouettes and curved forms.

Textural, weather-worn exteriors are the inspiration for print. Building materials such as concrete, steel and brick inspired the colour palette of the collection, and offer texture to surfaces.
