We popped down to the Fashion & Textiles Museum to see the Knitwear, Chanel to Westwood, an exhibition comprised mainly of items from the collection of Mark and Cleo Butterfield.
The pieces are presented in wooden crates, stacked one on top of the other and are accompanied by images of knitwear from various publications and fashion shoots.
The pair have been collecting pieces of knit and crocheted garments since the 1960’s and they cover a huge amount of years, ranging from late Victorian and Edwardian periods to present day items. Pieces from hand-knitting gurus Patricia Roberts and Bill Gibb are featured along side household names such as Chanel, Missoni, Vivienne Westwood, Zandra Rhodes and Sonia Rykiel.
Top tip: Take your sketchpad to the exhibition for some quick drawings!
