OUR NEW NEIGHBOURHOOD | Le marais

by Les 100 Ciels Team on September 03, 2015

The secret is out…

We’ve opened our first store in Paris!

We could not be happier about moving into our new neighbourhood: Le Marais. The area buzzes with boutiques, chic restaurants and food stalls, and where bookshops double up as wine bars (you couldn’t get a better combination in our eyes!). Sandwiched between St-Paul and République, the Marais has been one of the hippest parts of Paris for the last two decades.

Read on to find out what our favourite spots in the Marais are!

 Le Mary Celeste

If you’re looking for somewhere to brunch while people watching, Le Mary Celeste is your place!

Located in a former video editing office, the decor takes on a nautical theme with rope wrapped columns and white washed bricks. This place is renowned for their amazing cocktails, spicy kimchi and a 1 euro oyster bar at happy hour.

Tips: Bag a window seat and watch the world go by whilst sipping on Michael’s Garden Fizz (a delicious citrus drink with lime, egg whites and ginger beer) and indulging on Pain Perdu de Brioche Maison (french brioche toast with sautéed mushrooms with lemon zest and parsley). Delicious!

Merci

You cannot go to Paris without visiting the concept shopping sensation, Merci. Housed inside a 19th-century fabric factory, it’s three warehouse-like floors are bursting with furniture, homewear, fashion and stationary.

Tip: wind down with a frothy cappuccino in Merci’s fantastically dark and moody Used Book Cafe, where you can take in the thousands of books surrounding you for the whole afternoon.

Le Marché des Enfants Rouges

After visiting Merci, continue north along Rue Charlot and discover the wonderful food stalls at the Marché des Enfants Rouges, Paris’s oldest food market. As well as it’s fresh produce, fish, beef and flowers, you can also sample an international array of prepared foods such as sushi, tagines, pasta and crêpes.

Tip: eat in and bag one of the outdoor tables to experience authentic Parisian market life.

Atelier Brancusi

Located in a building in front of the Centre Pompidou is the restored studio of the patriarch of modern sculpture, Cosntantin Brancusi. Before he died, he left his studio along with its entire contents to the French State with the condition that it was reconstructed to show his work exactly how it stood on the day of his death. The collection houses over 137 sculptures and more than 1,600 photographic glass plates and is an absolute joy to see.

Tip: the studio is free and there’s no queuing involved!
