Exclusive Collaboration- Spring Summer 15′ Printed Scarves

To launch our Spring/ Summer ’15 collection, we are injecting a dash of colour into our styles to mirror the changing seasons. What better way to find that freshness than through the world of art?! Our beginnings are deeply rooted in Chinese culture, as the name Les 100 Ciels meaning One Hundred Skies in French, was taken from a Chinese poem. To honor our foundations, we decided to approach a Chinese artist to collaborate with us on an exclusive range of painted scarves. We reached out to the talented, Chao Xi Liu, whose work is inspired by nature and the ever changing  sky which perfectly matches our own inspiration. Based in Southern China, Chao Xi Liu’s work centers around large scale installations and floor to ceiling murals, delighting all who have witnessed his creations. We are proud to introduce our Printed scarves collection, exclusively developed by Chao Xi Liu for Spring Summer 2015.  The beautiful patterns range from soft blues, through to burnt oranges and deep, enchanting purples, palettes which evoke the colours of sunsets and day breaks perfectly. Made from 100% wool, the lightweight scarves add a splash of colour to any outfit, making them great to wear from day to night. Find your ...

Borrowing from the boys

Menswear is constantly informing the way we wear our clothes, more so now than ever before.  Who doesn’t love a comfy boyfriend jumper! We recently went to London Men’s Collections and could see womenswear influencing the designs too. Most women have flirted with the idea of menswear, as Vogue says: ‘Katharine Hepburn wore Brooks Brothers shirts bought from a secret girls-only counter at the back of the New York store, Marlene Dietrich worked the tux with unrivalled command, while Doris Day cavorted in her lover’s oversized shirts’. Here is our City Edit, which borrows styling from the boys and paired with our more structured pieces like Harper. This look is great for work wear and cosmopolitan living!

KNITWEAR Chanel to Westwood

We popped down to the Fashion & Textiles Museum  to see the Knitwear, Chanel to Westwood, an exhibition comprised mainly of items from the collection of Mark and Cleo Butterfield. The pieces are presented in wooden crates, stacked one on top of the other and are accompanied by images of knitwear from various publications and fashion shoots.     The pair have been collecting pieces of knit and crocheted garments since the 1960’s and they cover a huge amount of years, ranging from late Victorian and Edwardian periods to present day items. Pieces from hand-knitting gurus Patricia Roberts and Bill Gibb are featured along side household names such as Chanel, Missoni, Vivienne Westwood, Zandra Rhodes and Sonia Rykiel. Top tip: Take your sketchpad to the exhibition for some quick drawings! Book tickets here! Check out our knits here!

TOP 5- Art Month

It’s that time of year again when the art fairs take over London. We have picked our top 5 artistic attractions for this month, with a view on upcoming exhibitions and a summary of our favourite events.   1. The Les 100 Ciels team love the idea of combining art and fashion, so when we stumbled across North American master Richard Tuttle’s work, we wanted to share it with you!                 This artist’s pieces often feature everyday materials such as cloth, paper and rope, but for this particular exhibition Tuttle has taken inspiration from textiles. I Don’t Know. The Weave of Textile Language looks at the importance of textiles throughout history and combines a major exhibition in the Whitechapel Gallery, a large-scale sculptural commission in Tate Modern’s Turbine Hall and a brand new book. The sculpture is at the Tate Modern until 6th April 2015 and the exhibition is in the Whitechapel Gallery until 14th December.   2. Frieze week did not disappoint this year, firmly placing London on the map as a centre for art. One of our favourite artists we saw this year was recent graduate May Hands. Like Tuttle, her ...
